Need to enable Hyper-V on your local machine? Check out my guide here on how to do that. It’s helpful to keep separate, containerized versions of Business Central to ensure they function as they would in a production environment.
Download the BC Installation Media
The first step to getting this configured is to download the installation media. For BC 23 Wave 2, you can find it here:

Select your respective region and select download:
Once downloaded, you’ll need to copy this into your Hyper-V Virtual Machine that was created. If you’re unfamiliar with Hyper-V, you can just copy from your desktop and paste into the Virtual Machine.
Make sure that you extract the files from the zip folder once copied over.
Locate the Setup.exe file and run it:
This will launch the Business Central installer. Select “Next”:
Accept the terms by selecting “I accept”:
Select “Advanced Installation Options”:
This will give you the “Install Demo” option. This will install the standard CRONUS database:
Confirm that you want to install the demo by selecting “Yes”:
This will install all required services and applications, such as SQL 2019 Express:
Once completed, restart your Virtual Machine, navigate to http://localhost:8080/BC230/ and you will see your own, personal copy of the latest version of BC On-Prem!
Having the ability to test out different versions of Business Central helps companies plan for their upgrades and allows users to experience the software before Go-Live.
