Welcome to my corner of the Microsoft Universe! My name is Chris Warren, an Electrical Engineer by degree, with a passion for seamlessly integrating technology into business processes. My journey began in 2012 when I embarked on my career at a prominent medical device company, where I immersed myself in the world of CAD, learning as much as I could. Throughout my college years, split between Stevens Institute of Technology and Mississippi State University, I contributed to the design of medical devices and biosensors at the same company.
Upon earning my degree in Electrical Engineering, I chose to stay and grow within the organization. Over time, I transitioned into the role of an Electrical Engineer, gradually taking on more responsibilities. I found myself at the helm of our NAV 2017 Instance, as the Senior Business Systems Engineer, where I managed NAV and delved into the intricacies of various departments such as Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, and Sales.
The challenge presented itself when I discovered that the previous partner didn’t appropriately configure our NAV 2017 Instance. Undeterred, I dedicated years to revamping the entire system. To deepen my understanding of the interplay between ERP and Accounting systems, I pursued a certificate in Accounting from Harvard Business School Online. This newfound knowledge became instrumental in streamlining our operations.
As a result of my experiences, I became a speaker at the Dynamics Communities Summit Conference in 2021, sharing valuable lessons learned during the NAV 2017 revamp. With the system running seamlessly, I decided to stay ahead of the curve by upgrading to Business Central 20, 21, and 22, all within a span of 365 days. Currently, I’m the Director of IT, and am expanding the use of Business Central through the entire company – whether it’s new functionality in the system, or streamlining business processes through Business Central.
This journey, spanning over 7 years in a pivotal position, has inspired me to launch this blog. Here, I aim to share insights and lessons learned from my extensive experience with Microsoft technologies. When deciding to upgrade your version of Business Central, it’s helpful to see what new features are available in the software you’re upgrading to. Microsoft offers the ability to install a demo CRONUS database on your local machine. In order to keep these separate, it helps to enable Hyper-V and virtualize each of these versions separately.
